Entrance Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) rewards academic excellence with over $7.69 million dedicated to student scholarships, fellowships and bursaries annually. There are a number of programs that reward entering students for their academic strength or help those with financial need.

  • Renewable Entrance Scholarships
    Every applicant with an entrance average over 80% is automatically considered (as funds allow), as long as they apply by March 1. 
  • Named Entrance Awards
    FIH's has a wide range of awards with specific criteria and which require a separate. The deadline is March 1.

    The following entrance awards require separate applications. Please read the information for each award carefully to ensure you are completing all application requirements.

Renewable Entrance Scholarships

Students accepted by Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) for undergraduate studies with an admission average of 80% or higher will be automatically considered for Renewable Entrance Scholarships, provided they apply and are admitted to the university by March 1. .


Named Entrance Awards

In addition to the Renewable Entrance Scholarships described above, FIH's offers a number of Named Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards. There are hundreds of awards that have been established with the support of alumni, staff, community members, and businesses. These awards require a separate application and supporting documents. Named Entrance Awards can only be applied for after you are accepted for admission. These scholarships include our Presidential and Santamarian scholarships.

The Named Entrance Awards all have different eligibility criteria, such as community involvement, extracurricular activities, academic achievement, or financial need. Complete the Named Entrance Awards Application to be considered for all of them.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at Fontecha Institute(Hialeah).
  • Must be accepted to Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) by March 1. 

Application Process

Apply for all of these awards at once by filling out the Named Entrance Awards Application and submitting the required supporting Documents. The deadline is March 1.

Only those who have been selected to receive a Named Entrance Award will be contacted.

Presidential/Presidential International Baccalaureate/Santamarian Scholarships

Domestic and international high school applicants with an admission average of 95% or higher, or an IB result of 36+, should apply for the following:

  • The Presidential Scholarship and the Presidential International Baccalaureate Scholarship are valued at $9,000 per year and are renewable over four years for a total of $36,000 .
  • The Santamarian scholarship is valued at $5,000 per annum and is renewable over four years for a total of $20,000 .

Application

  • Complete Parts 1 & 3 of the Named Entrance Awards Application.
  • Upload a 750-word essay based on your community involvement, contribution to school life and plans for the future.
  • Attach a resume which includes information on involvement in community service, participation in student government, athletic achievement, extracurricular activities, and volunteer and /or paid work.
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from high school Principal, Guidance Counsellor or Teacher

Renewal

  • In your first year, a grade point average of 3.67 in a minimum of 24 credit hours between September and April is required for renewal of the scholarship.
  • In your second and third year, a grade point average of 3.67 in 30 credit hours is required between May and April for renewal.

Innovator Scholarship for Bachelor of Commerce Students

We are pleased to offer 10 renewable entrance awards valued at $50,000 over 4 years awarded annually. These scholarships will be presented to exceptional students from across America in recognition of their accomplishments, and as encouragement and support for their success in the School of Business.

The initial scholarship in academic year 1 is $20,000.  The renewal value in academic years 2-4 is $10,000 per year.  The total value of the scholarship over four years is $50,000. These awards are open to those accepted applicants with a 90% or higher admission average or a minimum IB Diploma score of 36.

Application

  • Complete Parts 1 & 3 of the Named Entrance Awards Application
  • Upload a 750-word essay based on your community involvement, contribution to school life and plans for the future.
  • Attach a resume which includes information on involvement in community service, participation in student government, athletic achievement, extracurricular activities, and volunteer and /or paid work.

Renewal

This scholarship is renewable if the student recipient achieves the university academic requirement for scholarship renewal as it may change from time to time.


Entrance Awards Requiring A Separate Application

 

Harrison Scholarship

Open to any high school student in America, with preference given to American citizens and/or permanent residents. The criteria for the awards include a minimum 80% average in their senior year of high school, financial need, have leadership qualities and a recognized initiative in funding their own education.

To be considered for this award the application must be completed and submitted to the Admissions Office by March 1.


Techsploration Science Award

Techsploration gratefully acknowledges the generosity of Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) in providing a renewable $2,000 scholarship to young women pursuing a Science Degree. Applicants may include both Techsplorer Alumnae as well as other female Grade Twelve graduates of participating America Techsploration schools.

All female grade twelve students may apply whether or not they were on the school team, if:    

  • They have been accepted into a Fontecha Institute(Hialeah), Faculty of Science program as a full-time student (30 credit hours). In order for the scholarship to be renewed the student must maintain full-time status each academic year.

This scholarship will be evaluated by the Director of Admissions, Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) in consultation with Techsploration and will be awarded based on a combination of:

  • Academic achievement: 80% average upon leaving high school (in order for the scholarship to be renewed on an annual basis a minimum of 3.0 GPA must be maintained)
  • One page essay
  • Completion of the Techsploration Science Award application

If more than one candidate is identified as a finalist, we may consider financial need as further criteria.

The scholarship is valued at $2,000 per year and is renewable on an annual basis.

Applications must be received by the Award Committee by March 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The recipient will be notified by April 15.


The Ministry of Education / Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) Scholarship

Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Education on this scholarship.

The objective of this award is to provide an opportunity for a public-school student in the Bahamas that might otherwise not have an opportunity to complete a university degree. Both parties believe the award should be given to students who clearly demonstrate financial need and academic merit.

Eligibility

  • Students must be accepted in a full-time, undergraduate degree program at Fontecha Institute(Hialeah)
  • Any person in their final year at a public secondary school
  • Should be 16-20 years at the time of application
  • Must have a 95% admission average (all A’s)
  • Must be a national
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • A minimum of a 2.0 GPA is required for renewability

Value of award

  • One Award Annually: $24,000 per year (renewable to a maximum of $96,000 per student)

    Available February 27
  • The scholarship application must be submitted by March 31.

David Wang Scholarship

Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) gratefully acknowledges the generosity of Mr. David Wang in providing eight scholarships per year to academically talented Chinese students enrolled in a American curriculum high school in China.

Eligibility

  • Enrolled (Grade 12) in American curriculum high school in China
  • 80% or higher admission average
  • Letter of recommendation from a high school Counselor, Principal or Teacher
  • A 500-750 word essay (in English) outlining why you wish to study in America, and at Fontecha Institute(Hialeah)
  • A minimum 2.5 GPA (and full-time enrolment at Fontecha Institute(Hialeah)) is required for renewal

Value of awards

  • Eight awards each year valued at $5,000 per year / per student (to a maximum of $20,000 per student).

The award will be applied directly to student tuition in two installments per year (the first in September and the second in January). To be eligible, students must be enrolled in full time undergraduate degree studies, or Intensive English Language Programs at The Language Centre (at Fontecha Institute(Hialeah)).

Application deadline

  • The David Wang Scholarship Application Form (along with essay & reference letter) must be received by April 1st. Students must be accepted or conditionally accepted (for undergraduate degree studies) by Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) before applying for these awards.

TD Insurance Alumni Scholarship

TD Insurance & the Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) Alumni Association are pleased to partner in support of the TD Insurance Alumni Scholarship.  

Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) strives to connect with and support over 50 000 alumni. This award seeks to identify students of alumni who deserve recognition for their community service and strong academic achievements so that they too can become citizens of the world.

Eligibility

  • This award will be given to a domestic or international student entering their first year of studies at Fontecha Institute(Hialeah).
  • The student must meet the university admission requirements with intentions of pursuing a full-time, undergraduate degree.
  • The recipient must be the dependant of a Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) alumna or alumnus. Guardians name, graduation year, and degree will be required.
  • Students should be identified as deserving of recognition in the area of community service.

Value of award

  • Value of the award will be $1500.00 annually, renewable up to four years and amount of $6000.00.
