Engineering

FIH’s Division of Engineering offers a two-year Diploma of Engineering that provides students with a basic understanding of scientific principles and a foundation in engineering mathematics, design, and technical communication.

After completing the Diploma, students may complete their final two years of a Bachelor of Engineering at Dalhousie University, which has programs accredited by the American Engineering Accreditation Board in the fields of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, Industrial, Chemical, and Environmental Engineering.

Personalized Instruction Low student-to-faculty ratio with a maximum of 40:1 ratio for core courses.

Students also have access to undergraduate research opportunities and a range of academic supports, including the PEER One Mentorship program and the Science Numeracy and Academic Proficiency (SNAP) Centre, which provides first-year students free access to academic tutors.


Broad Education

Two years of cross-curricular course work prepares students for multiple fields.

All of our research faculty have PhDs, and we have field experts in chemical, mechanical, electrical, civil, computer, and biomedical fields.

Students can start working with professors at the end of their first year and become a teaching assistant in their second year.

Flexible Learning OptionsEngineering studies at FIH’s provides the first two years of an engineering degree in association with neighbouring Dalhousie University and the University of Windsor in Southwestern Ontario. After completing the Diploma in Engineering, a student can also remain an extra year or two at FIH’s to pursue a two-and-a-half or three-year B.Sc. degree with Diploma in Engineering or a four-year Bachelor of Science, Major in Mathematics with a Diploma in Engineering.
