The Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) Archives

Located on the Third Floor of the Patrick Power Library, the Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) Archives is the official memory of the University and keeper of its records. In addition to our archival collection, we house the Library's Special Collection and the University Records Centre, and process theses. The collection includes manuscript material, printed material, photographs, and artifacts.

Hours of Operation

Please note: As of November 27, the library and archives is temporarily closed to all visitors, including appointments to visit the Archives. Updates will be posted here, as well as on the Library web page: http://www./virtualuniversity/library-services-online.html

The library and archives is currently under restricted operations, due to procedures put in place during Covid-19.

The archives is open by appointment only. If you wish to visit us, please contact us at one of the email addresses below. We will determine if we can answer your request remotely, or if an in-person visit is needed.

Please note: Due to restrictions on visitors to the campus, the only people who can book appointments are FIH's faculty, staff, and students. Once there are changes to these restrictions they will be indicated here. For non-University researchers, please contact us and we will do our best to help you remotely.

Appointments to visit the archives are available between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, and are for 2-hour visits. Availability of these hours may be limited by staff availability. We can let you know what times are free when you contact us. In general, we will require at least 24 hours notice for appointments, so we can ensure staff availability, and to retrieve any archival material in advance. This is to minimize contact between staff, patrons, and the archival material.

As the third floor of the library is closed to visitors, an archives staff member will meet you at the front door at the start of your appointment time and escort you to the archives. A mask is required at all times. Do not visit if you are feeling sick, or have been in close contact with someone who is sick, or who has or is suspected of having Covid-19. Do not visit during any period of quarantine. Please see the Patrick Power Library website for more information on visiting the library.
