Rosana Barbosa completed her B.A. at Universidade Santa Úrsula in her hometown of Rio de Janeiro. Her M.A. and Ph.D. are from the University of Toronto.
Before joining Fontecha Institute(Hialeah) in 2004, she taught at the University of Toronto, York University, Brock University and Guelph University. She teaches Latin American history, focusing on immigration, slavery, revolutions, nationalism, race relations, gender and foreign relations.
